SWACool project finalized

Missions :

The project focused on the in situ analysis of 4 tertiary buildings in La Réunion and 3 buildings in Marseille (two of which are connected to the Thassalia network) in order to :

• gain a better understanding of cooling demand in commercial buildings on Reunion Island
• characterize the actual performance of cooling production equipment and the consumption of air-conditioning auxiliaries (production, distribution, emission)
• identify the real energy-saving potential of simple actions such as adding a variable speed drive to a distribution pump
• compare simulation results using standard parameters for two of the buildings on La Réunion with actual cooling demand profiles measured over the long term.

The 4 sites on La Réunion were selected to cover a wide range of typologies:

• hospital (22,000 m²): Pôle-Femme-Mère-Enfant (PFME) at CHU Sud in Saint-Pierre
• offices (1,260 m²): Caisse d’Allocations Familiales (CAF) de Saint-Paul
• teaching (1,755 m²): Fac de Lettres at the Université de La Réunion in Saint-Denis
• SFR datacenter in Le Port.

Two of the 3 Marseille sites studied are connected to the Thassalia network (refrigeration machines cooled by water from the Mediterranean Sea):

• offices (9,800 m²): Calypso
• hotel (9,500 m²): Golden Tulip
• offices (16,780 m²): Mirabeau 2 (not connected to the Thassalia network).
