A 714 kWp self-consumption PV solar power plant at LECLERC La Réserve in Sainte-Marie de la Réunion.

✔️ 2,266 solar panels

✔️ 30% of the hypermarket’s electricity consumption wiped out thanks to solar power

✔️ Represents the consumption of 300 Réunion households

In this way, the E.Leclerc group in La Réunion is reducing its carbon footprint and powering its new Hypermarket with clean, local energy.

In real time, up to 100% of the store can be powered by this photovoltaic plant. What’s more, production is guaranteed by an energy performance contract.

A photovoltaic self-consumption project carried out exclusively with Réunion-based companies

Green Tech’s teams oversaw the entire project, from feasibility to operation, including ordering equipment, selecting service providers, construction, commissioning, legal affairs and financial arrangements.

Green Tech has worked with local partners such as COTEL ingénierie, ENERGIE VERTE ALTERNATIVE and ETOI Electrotechnique Océan Indien.

Green Tech works with partners to supervise, maintain and service the photovoltaic power plant, optimizing electricity production over the short, medium and long term.

European solar panels and inverters

Even though we can’t source material from Reunion, we decided to source as much European material as possible for this PV plant. So we have German photovoltaic panels (with a non-reflective surface because of their proximity to the airport) and Spanish inverters.

The choice of a self-consumption photovoltaic plant is a strategic one for E.Leclerc La Réserve (and for E.Leclerc stores in Réunion in general).

Theenergy produced by the rooftop photovoltaic plant is used directly by the store, enabling E.Leclerc to continue its energy efficiency efforts.

Photovoltaic self-consumption also enables E.Leclerc La Réserve to significantly reduce its electricity bill, while using green, locally-produced, environmentally-friendly energy.

A long-term commitment: a 30-year objective

The aim of this PV power plant is to produce electricity for as long as possible. As a result, high-performance equipment has been chosen, and maintenance contracts are in place to ensure that the plant runs smoothly and performs well.

Solar panels have an average lifespan of 30 years. If the user is guaranteed full power for the first 10 years after installation. Then, over the next 10 years, these panels provide 90% of this power. Between the 21st and 30th years, they can deliver 80% of their starting power. Occasionally, some panels will have more losses (hot spots, broken glass…), but there is a stock of replacement panels.

However, the inverter that transforms the direct current produced by the PV panels is more fragile than other parts, and lasts on average between ten and twelve years. You should therefore choose a high-performance inverter and plan to replace it every 10 to 12 years. They are guaranteed for 5 years.
